Melody Phillips, Sales Engineer, Jetcraft
Location: Hong Kong
How long have you been at Jetcraft?
I joined the Hong Kong office in May 2018, so it’s been just over a year now.
What are your responsibilities within the global Jetcraft team?
I support David Dixon and Tim Yue for the South East Asia Region as well as Mick Doohan & Daniel Renwick for AUS & NZ. I primarily assist with the generating of specs, conducting market research, technical reviews, Valuations and whatever they may need in order to get those transactions successfully completed.
Describe a typical day or week in your role.
Most days are spent at my desk providing the necessary sales support to my sales directors, other times it requires me networking with clients & customers at events or airshows in my designated areas. The gathering of information takes most of my time in order to provide my sales directors with as much information as possible. Again this is aviation, there is no such thing as a typical day or week, but it does make things interesting and the job is never boring.
What do you love most about your job?
Diversity! Living and working in Hong Kong is amazing, getting to meet people in this industry from all over Asia-Pacific is always fun and exciting to grow my network.
Describe the company culture at Jetcraft and what it means to you?
Jetcraft is definitely all about “Family”! I really enjoy being part of this aviation family and its means the world to me to know that I have the support of everyone in Jetcraft to grow and evolve in this business.
What do you want your customers to experience when dealing with Jetcraft?
It’s important that our customers are always treated with the utmost professional courtesy. We want to ensure we exceed their expectations and follow through on the transactions to achieve satisfied customers that want to come back again and again.
Who or what has been your greatest professional influence?
My dad taught me the skill to work with my hands that so many women in today’s generation are afraid to break into. It started out playing with spanners (wrenches) in the back yard after primary school and then turned into a job after high school. I then joined the South African Air Force in April 2007 and became an Aircraft Mechanic. But the most important lessons I learnt from him before he died at the age of 46 was to always be humble, learn to forgive & forget and if you can dream it, you can achieve it!
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Adventurous, Brave and Compassionate.
If you were to buy a business jet, which aircraft would suit your needs and why?
I guess it would be a Gulfstream G550, which is just right to fly from one Formula 1 race to the next.
What stands out to you as good customer service?
Constant support, going above and beyond their expectations and building good relationships along the way.
Finally, what is your hidden talent or hobby?
I enjoy snowboarding with my family! I really have taken to the sport and maybe one day can become a more seasoned snowboarder!
