Jetcraft serves industry needs

As part of Jetcraft’s commitment to the business aviation community we have been busy these last several months on three fronts.

FAA LED Project
Working to make our airspace safer and more accessible

In the latter part of 2014 the FAA formed a special working group representing airports, aircraft certification & safety, lighting and the aviation industry. The working group is addressing the concerns of LEDs currently migrating in to runways and airports all over the world.

Part of this effort is existing and new research centered on the impacts of LEDs on the human eye and how they interact with pilots performing operations at our nation’s airports.

Jetcraft is co-leading a science group that is working closely with flight operations specialists to determine testing that may be required.

A sub part of this effort is Jetcraft’s long term leadership in the solution for enhanced flight vision system (EFVS) operators to continue using approach lighting when and if they move over to LED’s. The concerns of visible LED implementation is overarching. Addressing both visible and infrared (IR) LED issues will be a single effort. IR lamp solutions for MALSR’s are well underway and the testing of prototypes will be included in any visible LED testing going forward.

Working to engineer effective cockpit/pilot avionics interface

In January 2015 RTCA held its first plenary meeting of this new work group. Jetcraft has joined a team of FAA and industry to participate in addressing various human factors concerns regarding cockpit avionics and the interface to pilots. The goals of the work group includes improved guidance for avionics manufacturers and installers to ensure all aspects of human factors and impacts to cockpit resource management have been considered in systems design.

Ensuring continued access for business aircraft

Following on from recent and completed efforts as part of the same sub-committee on determining metrics, NAS fuel use, and PBN implementation, Jetcraft has joined a small ad-hoc team to address a short list of key performance areas (KPA’s) in our national airspace. The key performance areas are monitored via key performance indicators (KPI’s) and informed by metrics. While some metrics are diagnostic, these will remain at a high level to inform Congress on the progress of certain NextGen implementations. Jetcraft promotes the interests of business aviation operators for whom access is very important, as opposed to throughput as an indicator of capacity, for Part 121 operators.
