Overview including differentiating features from other aircraft in its category
The Global 5000 is one of 4 business jet aircraft models built by Bombardier to compete in the ultra-long range large-cabin business jet market. The ultra-long range market is defined as a new group of large cabin business jets that can fly 5,000 nm or greater. Today the ultra-long-range large cabin business jet market has exceeded 1,100 aircraft in operation.
As of July 2013, the Global 5000 market is comprised of 59% new vs. 41% pre-owned. The percentage for sale is 12.2% with 88% under an exclusive broker agreement and the average days on the market are 267 days.
Brief History
The ultra-long-range large cabin business jet market began in 1995 with the Gulfstream GV followed two years later by the Global Express. The Global 5000 traces its roots to the Global Express which was the second ultra long-range large-cabin business jet produced and started delivering to customers in 1997.
The Global 5000 made its maiden flight in March 2003 with FAA and JAA type certification awarded in October 2004. Three new aircraft will follow the Global 5000. They are the Global 6000, Global 7000 and Global 8000 ultra-long-range business jets. There are currently 139 Global 5000 aircraft in operation around the world.
Worldwide Appeal
Of the 139 Global 5000 aircraft in operation by continent, North America has the largest percentage at 42%, followed by Europe at 31%, and Asia at 23% for a combined total of 96%. Also, only 10% of the 139 Global 5000 in operation today are in fleet ownership with the largest fleet operator (Air Force- Germany) having 4 aircraft. Interestingly, 7% of the Global 5000 are leased.
