The Cessna Citation CJ2 (Model 525A) differs most significantly from its predecessor the CJ1 (model 525) in respect to its markedly increased range and payload capacity. It comes in two forms: the original CJ2 and the newer CJ2+.

As of March 2014, the Citation CJ2 market is comprised of 100% pre-owned. The percentage for sale is 10.5% with 84% of that under an exclusive broker agreement and average days on the market are 683 days.

Brief History

The First delivery of the Cessna Citation CJ2 occurred in 2000. The series ended production in 2005. During that time, a total of 243 aircraft were built with 238 Citation CJ2 jets in operation today.

With only 6.5% of the total US-based aircraft equipped for ADS-B, there is a significant need for installation capacity between now and January 2020, the deadline for ADS-B Out equipage. Clearly, the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) community will be hard pressed to fulfill the demand.

As a rough guide focusing on turbine business aircraft, Table A shows that each US MRO needs to complete an average of 4.7 aircraft per month between now and 2020 for everyone to meet that country’s deadline. (Note that MROs owning multiple locations have greater capacity to achieve the monthly quota.)

The Airbus ACJ319 corporate jet is the business jet version of its commercial passenger counterpart model the A319. It has the widest fuselage diameter among its competitors, giving it the largest cabin volume in its class.

As of July 2015, the Airbus ACJ319 market is comprised of 18.6% pre-owned. The percentage for sale is 5.7% with 75% under an exclusive broker agreement and average days on the market are 181 days.

The Airbus ACJ319 corporate jet began production in 1999 and continues to be manufactured up to the present day. A total of 73 aircraft have been produced with all but 3 currently in operation.

Last week’s European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) was a major event and helped put the spotlight on the European sector of our industry. For the last few years, Europe has remained more or less stagnant, with only slight growth reported overall. However, there are some bright skies ahead for the continent.

First, it helps to remember that the European fleet is indeed growing. In 2001, Europe held 1,517 aircraft according to the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA). As of 2014 this number had more than doubled to 3,301 aircraft. So growth is occurring, though slower than perhaps the industry would like.

The Cessna Citation CJ4 (Model 525C), like its predecessor the Citation CJ3, is a stretch extension of the previous Citation Jet model. It differs most significantly from the previous models in its moderately swept wing design which it borrows from the Citation Sovereign.

As of March 2014, the Citation CJ4 market is comprised of 26% pre-owned. The percentage for sale is 4.7% with 71% of that under an exclusive broker agreement and average days on the market are 158 days.

The first flight of the Citation CJ4 took place on May 5, 2008. Deliveries began in 2010.

The midair collision over the Grand Canyon between two airliners in 1956 spurred the collaboration of industry and government in the development of a collision warning system. After a number of years using passive avoidance systems, industry realized the need for a predictive system, involving complimentary avoidance interaction between conflicting aircraft. In other word, if one aircraft decides to avoid another by climbing, the other aircraft needs to correspondingly descend. This necessary evolution eventually became TCAS II, with TCAS I being an advisory-only version of collision avoidance.
