How long have you been at Jetcraft?

I joined Jetcraft in November 2006.

What are your responsibilities within the global Jetcraft team?

Management of legal and transaction management matters, corporate and transaction strategy, marketing and IT oversight, member of the board of directors, and manage outside counsel.

Describe a typical day or week in your role.

I typically start the day addressing current deals that are either pending or working to become pending. This includes working with the legal, transaction management and sales teams, and coordinating with other members of the board on upcoming opportunities. I’ll also handle delegation of deals to the various transaction management team members and to outside counsel who may be assisting us. Depending on the day, I’ll have meetings with the marketing team to discuss upcoming events or other marketing activities, and if a board meeting is coming up, discuss what if anything we’ll need to present to the board on behalf of marketing. As a transaction-focused organization, much of what I do is centered around getting deals done.

Product Overview

The Gulfstream G650 is the fastest business jet ever built and has one of the longest ranges. The fuselage cross section is a unique oval shape with 8 large (28 inch) cabin windows on each side and the highly efficient wing has a greater sweep (36 degrees) than previous Gulfstream models. It is equipped with a fly-by-wire flight system.

As of May 2016, 8% of the Gulfstream G650 aircraft were purchased pre-owned by their current owners, the other 92% new. 11.7% are currently for sale with the majority of those (79%) under an exclusive broker agreement. When for sale, the average number of days on the market is 149.

Brief History

The Gulfstream G650 debuted in 2012. There have been a total of 158 aircraft produced with 120 currently in operation.

Worldwide Appeal

Most of the 120 Gulfstream G650 aircraft in operation today are owned outright (119) with 7% currently leased. North America has the largest percentage of Gulfstream G650 aircraft (55%), followed by Europe (23%) and Asia (15%).

With so much focus on the surging North American business aviation market, we should not forget Europe. Even though strict rules on lending practices and continuing currency issues do pose some challenges, Europe continues to show economic resilience. The continent still has buyers and sellers, although fewer than previous years.

Despite such challenges, we continue to see activity in the European business aviation sector as it comfortably remains the second largest market next to North America. The European business aircraft fleet is one of the world’s youngest, with close to half of its aircraft being less than ten years old. In addition, transaction activity remains steady-state for Europe. Our own market analysis points to Europe accounting for 14% of the total worldwide business aircraft deliveries throughout the next decade— not far from its traditional 15%-unit delivery share.  Such activity reinforces the fact that Europe remains a healthy place to do business. And we see activity primarily from North America fueling Europe’s business jet engines.

How long have you been at your current organization?

I started working for NARA (National Aircraft Resale Association) in the Fall of 2004.

What are your responsibilities within your organization? 

I am the Independent Association Director. I work closely with the NARA Board and Products & Services Member Advisory Council to provide Association management, membership services, and administrative support. I also plan NARA meeting functions and to oversee and coordinate NARA’s marketing efforts.

Describe a typical day or week in your role.

Each day I communicate with our Board of Directors on current action items, whether that be marketing initiatives, upcoming meetings, committee organization, or Association management details. I also handle the day-to-day member communications including responding to membership inquiries and current member requests, as well as the day-to-day finances that keep the Association humming.

Product Overview

The Hawker 900XP keeps many of the distinguishing features of the Hawker 850XP such as the winglets, Proline 21 avionics and cabin design. It’s upgraded engines allow it to climb more efficiently and give it an increased range. The inspection interval for the Hawker 900XP’s engines is 6,000 cycles, a marked improvement over the 4,660 cycle inspection interval of the engines on the Hawker 850XP.

As of February 2016, 39% of the Hawker 900XP aircraft were purchased pre-owned by their current owners, the other 61% new. 13.1% are currently for sale with the majority of those (87.5%) under an exclusive broker agreement. When for sale, the average number of days on the market is 183.

Brief History

The Hawker 900XP, the newest version of the Hawker 800/800XP mid-sized business jet, received type certification in August 2007. In creating the Hawker 900XP, the Hawker series had been stretched, its wings had been modified, and it was now powered by very advanced, efficient turbofan engines. Production ended in 2012 following completion of 183 deliveries.

There are 183 Hawker Beechcraft 900XP aircraft in operation today. Most of these are owned outright (171) with 16% currently leased. North America has the largest percentage of Hawker 900XP aircraft (63%), followed by Asia (16%) and Europe (11%).

The business aviation industry continues to show signs of recovery after years of recession, but it is modest and mixed. Operators continue to focus on larger-cabin aircraft classes, ranging from super mid-size through ultra long-range, which are expected to account for the majority of transactions for new business jets in the near term. Deals being executed in North America, Europe and Asia are leading the majority of the industry’s resurgence.

The most significant drivers of growth for large, long-range business jets sales throughout these regions include GDP growth, fleet replacement, and the expansion and most importantly the globalization of international business and commerce into developing regions. For example, Chinese business activities continue to grow in Africa, with investments in the continent’s mining and agriculture sectors. Chinese investors and corporate leaders are turning to long-range business jets to travel to southern Africa and conduct their business in the most efficient way, as we already have seen an increase of new Global 5000 and 6000 deliveries. Such continued wealth creation, coupled with aviation infrastructure development, is expected to accelerate the use of long-range business aircraft dramatically from levels seen today.

Product Overview

The Citation Excel is combination of Cessna technologies and designs with a shortened Citation X stand-up fuselage and a lengthened Citation V wing. The Excel’s PW545A engines make it faster than the V Ultra and give it a higher MGTOW and a longer range. The Cessna Citation Excel (Model 560XL) was the original version of the Excel series of aircraft. It was designed to compete in the more traditional twin-turboprop market.

As of March 2016, 80% of the Citation Excel aircraft were purchased pre-owned by their current owners, the other 20% new. 6% are currently for sale with the majority of those (86%) under an exclusive broker agreement. When for sale, the average number of days on the market is 313.

Brief History

The first flight of a prototype Citation Excel was on February 29, 1996. The series began production in 1998 and was replaced by the Citation XLS in 2004 following completion of 371 deliveries.

There are 369 Citation Excel aircraft in operation today. Most of these are owned outright (301) with 12% currently leased. North America has the largest percentage of Citation Excel aircraft (78%), followed by Europe (9%).

In the previous article on this subject we reviewed an aircraft’s means of connecting, externally, to the outside world via the use of installed aircraft equipment. In this article we focus on how that same equipment turns its attention to internal connectivity. We cover how information is transferred, converted, interfaced and displayed to both passengers and crew.

Once received via a designated antenna, content is down-converted to video, voice and data. However this information needs further adapting in order to ensure compatibility with onboard devices. Included in this extra step is the need for human interface, allowing the selection of audio and visual components.
